Climate in Los Alcazares
Even now as we write this piece on the 23rd December 2022, the weather forecast over the next few days is set to a high of between 19 and 20 degrees, so rather than experiencing endless delays with the snow, fog and rain, you can experience plenty of sunshine, sangria, Mediterranean flavours, and of course the highly sought after Spanish lifestyle. Generally the climate here throughout the year offers long, hot summers and mild winters with a short Spring & Autumn.
History of Los Alcazares
A former fishing village (much like many of the other coastal towns in Murcia & the Costa Blanca) Los Alcazares is one of the youngest Municipalities in the area, only being given that status in the 1980’s, however it has one of the richest and oldest histories which dates back around 800 years. In fact, Los Alcazares is home to the only surviving Balneario (an old bathing hut for swimmers to descend gracefully into the calm & turquoise waters without having to change on the beach), which is now used as a restaurant & is the focal point for the old traditional dish of Caldero, the staple of fisherman who used to work the shoreline. The name Los Alcazares derives from the word ‘Al Kazar’ which can mean either ‘palace’ or ‘house of nobles’ and this is from the time of the Moors who were prevalent right along the coast up until the time of the Christian Re-Conquest.
Known more locally as a ‘Spa Town’ the water here is especially good for those with rheumatic, arthritic and skin issues plus nearby there’s even a natural mud bath whose natural remedies have been rated as excellent – comparing very highly with the waters of the Black Sea. If the water here was good enough for the Romans (there’s plenty of evidence to back this up) then it’s good enough for us, considering that we’ve taken so much other inspiration from them over the years.
Lifestyle in Los Alcazares
Very popular for families the coastline of Los Alcazares stretches for around 7km with a wide and well lit promenade that runs along the entire route. It’s perfect therefore for Water Sports, Kitesurfing, relaxing on the Sand, cycling, jogging, eating/drinking in one of the many Chiringuitos or restaurants and shopping + there’s also an array of beach-front properties from where you can relax and admire the wonderful views, sunrises and sunsets. On top of this, there’s also a number of Children’s play areas, touristic sites and golf courses, so plenty to do for all the family & all ages. Some of the best sites to see in the local area include the Medieval Market, the Monolith of Independence, The Parroquia de Nuestra Senora de los Remedios Church, the Torre Del Rame Arab Fortress and slightly further afield is the Aeronautical Museum. It’s definitely worth mentioning that there are a good range of facilities also within the town itself including doctor’s, dentist’s, schools and a Hospital around 10 minutes away.
