Property Investment in Murcia is on the up as sales in the region increased by 6% and Cartagena was recently voted as the third most popular seaside town in a recent survey of 1000 holiday makers!
Forget the likes of Marbella on the Costa Del Sol or Benidorm on the Costa Blanca North – the people have spoken as Cartagena in the region of Murcia has just been voted the third most popular seaside town in a recent survey of 1000 holiday-makers by ‘Which’, and not only that, but in the first quarter of this year (2024) Murcia also saw a 6% increase in sales, compared to the Valencian community which only saw a 1% increase and Andalucia which actually saw a 2.5% decrease
Receiving a customer score of 80%, Cartagena scored four out of five stars for its Seafront, Attractiveness, Safety and Shopping whilst its Friendliness, Food & Drink and Value for money scored three out of five. Tourist attractions got five out of five, but that will come as little surprise given it is a city that’s rich in history boasting an impressive array of archaeological sites from the Carthaginians, Romans & Moors.
Notable landmarks include the Roman Theatre, the Punic Wall, and the Conception Castle, which provide a window into the city’s storied past. The city’s cultural life is further enriched by its museums, such as the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQVA) and the Cartagena Naval Museum, showcasing the city’s maritime legacy.
Cartagena is also home to the La Mar de Músicas festival, an annual event that brings together artists from around the world for a celebration of music, art, and cultural exchange. There’s also the Easter Holy Week (Semana Santa) processions, where elaborately decorated floats and solemn parades fill the streets, reflecting the city’s strong religious traditions, and the Carthaginians and Romans Festival, held in September which reenacts historical battles and daily life from the ancient past, with participants dressed in period costumes, providing a vibrant and educational spectacle.
Cartagena is extremely well connected so whilst it maybe perfect for holiday-makers, tourists and day trips, many foreign investors and expats who are looking for more of a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle choose to settle in the nearby towns of Los Alcazares, La Manga, Torre Pacheco and further afield including San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier.
During Q1 (as we alluded to earlier) Murcia was the only region to see an increase in foreign buyers, but more importantly sales were the second highest in 15 years, for the period. Properties were also highly in demand from the Brits, who were the largest group of foreign buyers, for the whole of last year – where according to the Spanish Notaries 12,470 Spanish property sales involved a British buyer in 2023. Property sales were also made by those from Germany, France, USA, Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium and Sweden.
