If you’re thinking about making a permanent move or buying a holiday home then understanding the cost of living in Murcia is a vital first step. Thankfully, the Murcia region remains one of the most affordable in southern Europe, combining low costs with an unbeatable Mediterranean lifestyle.

In this 2025 guide, we break down all the key living expenses from groceries and utilities to housing and entertainment so you can budget confidently and plan your dream life in the sun.

Why Murcia is Still a Top Pick for Buyers in 2025
While areas like the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol often steal the spotlight, Murcia is fast becoming the smart choice for property buyers and expats. Why? Well, it’s mainly down to more affordable property prices, exceptional value for actual day-to-day living, authenticity, and year round sunshine with beautiful scenery.

Everyday Essentials and Shopping
Food costs in Murcia are refreshingly low – especially if you shop at local markets and a recent report by Expatisan Data shows that you can get 12 eggs for around €2,59, fresh bread for as little as €0.79, 500g of chicken for €3.63, 1kg of tomatoes for €1.84 and 1l of milk for approx. €0.99.It shows that if you stick to local produce and supermarkets like Mercadona or Consum for better deals your weekly shopping for two can be comfortably done for under €60.

What About Rent & Utilities?
Murcia’s property market continues to deliver exceptional value for money, and utilities for an 85 sqm home come in at around €132 for electricity, water, gas and waste, whilst high-speed internet is approx. €21. Compared to Alicante or Valencia, properties for sale here are generally 30% more affordable and despite a recent report showing that prices have risen in the region by 15% in Q1 of 2025, they are still cheaper overall when compared with the most expensive areas.

Getting Around: Transport Costs in 2025
Whether you drive or use public transport, getting around Murcia is very budget-friendly with 1l of petrol costing €1.48 and an 8km taxi ride costing around €18. A monthly public transport pass is also only €29. These costs are well below the EU average, and even further below costs when compared to travelling around in London and the wider UK.

Dining & Social Life
Dining out is a huge part of the Mediterranean lifestyle, and Murcia delivers without draining your wallet. A cappuccino for example is only €1.93 whilst the Menu Del Dia (which is highly popular during lunch hours) can set you back as little as €21 on average. Depending on where you go in the evenings a meal is around €32, the cinema is €15 and the local beer is €3.25 – imagine that compared to a UK Pub!

Health & Personal Care
Spain has an excellent public healthcare system, and Murcia is no exception. If you’re registered as a resident, you’ll have access to free or low-cost public healthcare. Private options are also widely available and reccommended with a private doctor visit costing €56. Private healthcare insurance is also only around €30-€50 per month with full coverage options available for less than €150 depending on the age of the applicant, and the provider.

Is Murcia Affordable?
Absolutely, and that’s why is so popular amongst retiree’s and families. The cost of living in Murcia in 2025 is lower than in most other coastal Spanish regions – and much more affordable than in northern Europe.
